The Questions
It's a safe bet that each of us has pondered at least one of the following three questions at some point in our lives. These questions seem to most often bubble to the surface when we have come to a standstill - when something in our lives either disrupts the normal flow, or when we pause to take a breath and drink in the world around us:
  Who Am I?
  Why Am I Here?
  What Happens When I Die?
Without doubt, the journey of life is a trek that ultimately leads to our discovering the answer to at least one of the above questions. Guess which.
Who am I? As our journeys unfold, we face countless forks in the road. It's the paths we choose to follow - the choices we make along the way - that begin to shape the answer to question number one. We retain the power to develop and define ourselves by the choices we make. So given time, for those who seek it, the answer to question one becomes clear. And it becomes the ship we use to take us further on our journey.
Why am I here? This is the really tough question. It's the question that can't be answered by someone else, yet has everything to do with others. It's the question that defines the destination of the journey. It helps us to choose which paths to travel. It's the question that asks "What is the meaning of my life?"
What happens when I die? Question three is the one that each of us will ultimately have answered. We are born, we journey, and then we die. And as we take leave of our bodies, we find the answer to question three. As fatalistic as it may seem, the mortality of our earthly existence creates a sense of urgency about the journey. It frames our reality. And should we feel the desire to seek answers to the first two questions in earnest, it offers us a defined space in which to work - a realm in which to travel.
